A Man Called INTREPID

A Man Called Intrepid was written by William Stevenson about the head of British Foreign Intelligence, known as British Security Coordination during WWII, William Stephenson. INTREPID was his code name. This book is one of 'the essentials'!   A Man Called Intrepid at Amazon

Are Children More Vulnerable To Environmental Chemicals?
Scientific and Regulatory Issues in Perspective
From the American Council on Science and health
The activists scream that pesticides cause all sorts of physical ailments in children including cancer, hyperactivity, attention deficit disorder, intelligence deficits, autism, endocrine disruption and whatever else they can speculate about with support from junk science PhD’s. In this day of IPM and “green” pest control we need to be aware of what is real and what is scaremongering. If you wish to find out what the facts really are, then this is the book. Purchased through the ACSH website.

The Big Ripoff
How big business and Big Government Steal Your Money
By Timothy P. Carney
The Big Ripoff really explains why big companies go along with programs that are clearly detrimental to who they are and what they do. As an example; The Whiskey Rebellion of 1794 was prompted by the federal government’s tax on whiskey. Who were the biggest supporters of that tax? It was the large distillers. Why? Who were the biggest supporters of the penalties and fines imposed on the tobacco industry in the law suit by the various states attorneys general? Phillip Morris! Why? Who are the biggest supporters of death and inheritance taxes? Warren Buffett, George Soros and Bill Gates! Why? Find this out and you begin to understand why companies “go green”. Damned Lies and Statistics
Untangling Numbers From the Media, Politicians, and Activists
By Joel Best
Statistics is the most misunderstood “science” we deal with. Everyone quotes them, many people base their views on them, leaders make decisions on them, the media creates crises from them…..and I would be willing to bet that that almost none of these people understand them….and I include myself. This book is like a can opener. Once into in it (not as hard to do as you might think) you really begin to see how information is manipulated to promote those things which are untrue. You realize that you must see beneath the surface of what is being presented. Reading books helps. Purchased through Amazon.com

Eco-Freaks
Environmentalism Is Hazardous to Your Health
by John Berlau
This is absolutely one of my favorites. Do you remember when the media laughed at Ronald Reagan when he said that trees cause pollution? Do they? Who are really responsible for the disaster caused by Katrina? Is environmentalism nothing more that eco-terrorism? Who is responsible? John Berlau has caused quite a stir with this book and it is worth the read. Purchased through Amazon.com

Eco-Imperialism
Green Power, Black Death
by Paul Driessen
This is the apex of “green books” if you really want to know what the green movement is all about. It is a small paper back that is easy to read and doesn’t take a great deal of time. If you read this and you aren’t outraged then you have no heart. If there was any better book that outlines how many people have died and suffered as a result of greenie activities - I don’t know what it is. Anyone and everyone who is involved in pesticides, whether at the manufacturing, distribution or application levels NEEDS to read this book! Any honest hearted person who is concerned about the environment, humanity and factual science needs to read this book.  This is my selection as the best read. Purchased through Eco-Imperialism web site.

I have been reading a great deal lately, but because I was so busy I wasn’t reading books, so when my friend Jay Lehr sent me a copy of his book, The Fluoride Wars, some time back, I took quite some time to get into it.   I actually had a number of reasons for my reticence; first, with all that I am involved in I haven't had the time to sit and read….and actually study a book, as would be required in this kind of reading.  Secondly, fluoride wasn’t an issue that I was all that interested in and besides; I already knew what Jay thought.  Well….I was wrong on two counts.
The fluoride issue is almost as foundational to the mythology of environmentalism as DDT because the arguments against fluoride by the agents of doom are much the same in their approach as you would expect regarding genetically modified foods, global warming, energy production, the EPA, and environmental regulations as a whole; so if one is interested in these other things then the fluoridation of drinking water should be of interest.
As I said, I was sure what Jay’s views were, so it came as quite a shock when I started reading.  He and his co-author R. Allan Freeze were far more unbiased and balanced than I would have thought possible.   I was convinced at one point that they just might be In favor of eliminating fluoride in drinking water.  I was at least 40% through the book before I had a firm grasp on their views. And then they took me right back through the same level of consternation and back again.  Why is that important?  It is important because it shows how they took great pains to explain the history of fluoridation in drinking water in America, outlining the views of all parties; even with a certain level of understanding and justification.
It is my belief that it is impossible to understand any issue properly unless you understand the history.  The history of the fluoridation of American’s drinking water is presented with balance, understanding and unvarnished facts in this book.  For anyone interested in understanding this issue I recommend reading The Fluoride Wars.  You will not only get a deeper understanding of the chemistry behind this issue you will get a deeper understanding of the emotions driving both sides, especially since this is a battle that is still enflaming so many.   You will also find the end conclusion interesting.  A conclusion that will leave you feeling that you have been given a balanced and science based solution.
You may also wish to read this review of The Fluoride Wars.

Gusher of Lies,
The Dangerous Delusions of Energy Independence
by Robert Bryce
This book will never allow you to see or hear anything regarding energy the same ever again. The phrase “energy independence” is constantly bandied about by everyone from both sides of the drilling argument. Impossible…. The scam that is ethanol, including cellulosic ethanol is covered quite extensively. Everything that you have read or have heard from the media will be called into question. Whether you agree with him or not, you will find that the history he cites is accurate. The science he presents is right on and his reasoning is difficult to argue with. Although there were areas that I would have liked to see him expand on the reasoning and there is one area that I did disagree with his conclusion, but over all I think that this is a must read if you really want to understand what makes “energy” the issue it is. Green Gone Wild
Elevating Nature Above Human Rights
by M. David Stirling
It could also have been named “Endangered Species Act, How We Lost Our Minds”. Although much of this information is available elsewhere, this book puts much of it together and in a fashion that you can’t help but be outraged at the corruption ESA has promoted. All the bad actors are outlined here, from when ESA first was formulated to how it got completely out of control as a result the Supreme Court case of TVA vs Hill. See the real science versus the myths we have been led to believe. Purchased through Amazon.com

Hoodwinked
How Intellectual Hucksters have Hijacked American Culture
By Jack Cashill
Why has society changed so much since the end of WWII? What happened to traditional values and why. This isn’t a green only book, however, in order to understand the green movement you must understand what its foundations, its goals and its motives are. Who are they a part of? From Whittaker Chambers to Rachel Carson and a whole host of people that have been a huge influence on the 20th century. For the history buffs among us this is a must read book. It connects dots that you might have not know were there before. Purchased through Amazon.com

Intellectual Morons
How Ideology Makes Smart People Fall for Stupid Ideas
By Daniel J. Flynn
“Why are people so blinded by the causes” they espouse, even when it is obvious to the most casual observer that their cause is seriously flawed? “The most influential social movements have spawned ideologues who do not care whether an idea is good or bad, true or false, but only whether it can serve their cause.” Find out who, where, what and why. He points out in the book that the environmental movement was “spawned by a “scientist” whose doomsday predictions are almost always wrong, has bred fanaticism, stupidity and dishonesty. “ And that is only the beginning of his exposes. He covers every issue imaginable and exposes those who have promoted them.  Easy to read which makes the information easy to retain? Purchased through Amazon.com

Junk Science Judo,
Self-Defense Against Health Scares and Scams
by Steve Milloy
“Junk science can rob you of your peace of mind”. I first stumbled on to Mr. Milloy quite by accident and have followed his work ever since. This book will give you the mental and emotional tools (the greenies appeal to the emotions and we must develop the intellectual responses to their claptrap) to become aware of where the weaknesses in the activist’s arguments are. That includes EPA officials and PhDs who have wandered off into the fever swamps of green irrationality and have become “tainted experts”… with grant money. What is science? Is it statistics? Is it epidemiology? Is it a study? Find out for yourself. You may be fooled after reading this book, but not very often. Purchased through the Junkscience.com web site.

The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Middle East,
by Martin Sieff
Although this is a history book with modern observation and commentaries and isn’t really a “green issue” book directly, it does explain how that mess got so bad in the Middle East. What do you know about the Ottoman Empire? What do you know about the Ottoman Empire, the British Empire, WW I, and how the Middle East was broken up and by whom? If you know these things you begin to understand the energy issues we face. That is when it becomes a “green issue”. Purchased through Amazon.com

The Politically Incorrect Guide to SCIENCE,
by Tom Bethell
This book is really “several doses of realism”. What do you know about the real effect of radiation on the human body? Why hasn’t cancer been cured in spite of the massive amounts of money poured into research over the last 30 years? What really causes cancer? If you want to know the inside story regarding the fear mongering of the activists and have the answers to all their spurious claims, this is the book. This book covers a host of issues beyond what I have listed above. Some of what he has to say may offend and some may disagree vehemently, but that is what reading books is all about…finding out what has been left out. Purchased through Amazon.com

Rats
by Robert Sullivan
Would you like to learn more about the history of pest control? Here is an enjoyable read and I recommend this one heartily. You will be amazed at the level of activity in New York and how the denizens of that city live with them. His affection for the pest control industry is obvious throughout the book and he makes the statement (from memory) “Exterminators are the hunters that keep the tribe healthy”. If you didn’t have pride in who and what you are, then after reading this you will be proud to be an exterminator….not a pest management professional ….an exterminator. Purchased through Amazon.com

The Ratcatcher’s Child
The History of the Pest Control Industry
Dr. Robert Snetsinger
And really enjoy the history, which goes back centuries, however, this is one of the more fun books about us. Although it isn’t presented in a humorous vein, it is fun because some of the information is personal. I know people mentioned in the book and family members of people mentioned in this book, so it is great to understand how we became organized as an industry by these people. . Good read. Purchased from Pest Control Technology

The Really Inconvenient Truths
Seven Environmental Catastrophes Liberals Don’t Want You to Know About—Because They Helped Cause Them
by Iain Murray
His outline of the reasoning and actions of the activists their “science” or science fiction is excellent. He logically points out that the concern for children and people as a whole is only a ruse to promote programs that are detrimental to all of them. He covers pesticides, the Endangered Species Act, Eco-Religion and how all of their programs are implemented through the government. He makes this statement in the Preface of the book; “By turning the nature that surrounds us into some separate, distinct object call the “environment,” liberals have cut off from nature. Conservatives live within nature, and know they are part of it. It is time to strike back at the idea that humanity is a cancer on the planet and to reveal just how damaging liberal policies have been. The liberal caricature would suggest that all the trees I see out of my window would have been cut down were it not for the liberal rules and regulations. Yet if the liberals truly had their way, I would not be sitting here, even with my low-0carbon lifestyle. Environmentalism deserves to be discredited as Marxism. Humanity—and the planet—would be better off without either of them.” Purchased through Amazon.com

Rules For Radicals
By Saul Alinsky
There has been a great deal of press about this book and its author, Saul Alinsky because Hillary Clinton and was an acolyte and Obama is an acolyte of one of his acolytes. Although this isn’t green per se, the reason that it is in this list is because I think that once anyone has read this book they will clearly understand the rules (or lack thereof) that the environmental activists are playing by. Their practices aren’t accidents. This comment by Drew Zahn clearly outlines what Alinsky represented; “Saul Alinsky was a social revolutionist who advocated going beyond leftist approaches to the point of stirring mass organizations of "Have-nots" that would rise up and seize power from the "Haves." Alinsky's radical methods were often controversial, as were his words, such as the dedication of his book "Rules for Radicals": "To the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom – Lucifer." Jerome Corsi notes; "Change" was a credo developed by Alinsky in his 1971 book entitled "Reveille for Radicals." "Change," for Alinsky, invoked radical socialism and meant the redistribution of wealth. "Change" was Alinsky's code word for creating a socialist revolution, even if the methodology meant radicals would cut their hair, put on business suits, and run for political office.” This book is enlightening and frightening because it outlines everything that you see going on by those attempting to overturn traditional societal values today, including the environmentalists. The Skeptical Environmentalist
Measuring the Real State of the Worldby Bjorn Lomborg
I can’t even begin to tell you how much information is contained in this book. If you want the find out the background and fallacious reasoning of the most prominent PhDs who have succumbed to the green mantra this is the book to read. Lomborg, a former environmental activist himself is an Associate Professor of Statistics in the Department of Political Science, University of Aarhus, Denmark. Do you need ammunition to defend the safety of pesticides? Do you want to understand the ozone “crisis”, world population, food production, energy, cancer and the whole host of environmental scaremongering then this is the book. It is long, it is technical and it is very precise. After reading this book you will never have to be intimidated by someone with a host of letters behind their name, and why…because they are making it all up, but you will still need the information to challenge them. Once you have it, they are lost. This has to be one of the greatest books ever written to counter the modern environmental movement. Purchased through Amazon.com

The Wealth and Poverty of Nations
Why Some Are So Rich and Some So Poor
By David S. Landes
I think that you will find Landes' research, examples, anecdotes and analysis striking and thought provoking. As we look at events around the world today we often ask; how did this happen? Well, the truth of the matter is that it has all happened before....many times. If I asked you to name the European country noted for commence and naval power, who would you answer? Most people would say England. In reality Holland was first and the English took that distinction away from them; how did this happen? The book is well referenced and writing it must have been a massive undertaking. You will undoubtedly find this to be an enlightening reading experience. The one thing that you have to come away with after reading this book; these historical realities have repeated over and over again and are occurring now; and the those in leadership positions know it!
